    What We're Learning

This week in Reading we will work  with our new book, "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane". We will focus on literary aspects of the book including making inferences and drawing conclusions. We will also work on character traits and changes, as well as vocabulary development.

In Social Studies we will begin studying about Stephen F. Austin, "The Father of Texas". We are about to begin the journey that leads up to the Texas Revolution, and it will be a really exciting and adventurous time in our class.
In Writing, we are continuing to focus on Analytical Response to different sources. We are working on responding to pictures, quotes, and even diary entries.
For vocabulary/spelling we will continue our weekly Greek/Latin root words. Our words will be posted on Spelling City for practice.

    Friday Folder Re-do Papers

Please check for these papers WEEKLY! Anything below a 70 can be corrected and returned for a 70.

    Education Galaxy At Home Usage

Along with Mrs. Staley, I am encouraging Education Galaxy to be used at home. I can’t express how helpful this tool is. It is not a place your child just plays games, or wastes time on technology. This is truly a helpful tool your child can use to increase their math and reading understanding. Your child should be spending some time on this weekly! I promise you won’t regret them working, and if you are interested in seeing a report of their usage, please email me!

    Austin Field Trip Information

Our parent information night will be held on Thursday, March 1st @ 6:00pm. Please make plans to be in attendance. At this meeting we will go over the Austin itinerary, discuss important information, collect all paperwork, have medical releases notarized, and collect all final payments. We have made some changes to the trip, so our final payment amount will go home in Friday folders. Please expect the payment to be around $100.00. This will include our bus fees, the caverns, t-shirt,  and dinner. We also provide breakfast and snacks along the way.

Please send back the Austin form so we can begin our documentation for the field trip!

**Please encourage your child to come! This is a great field trip. We would like all students to attend**

    **Siblings on the Austin Trip**

Per the note sent home regarding siblings on the Austin trip, we prefer siblings not attend the trip due to the strict rules at the capitol. As a grade level, we appreciate parents who are willing to chaperone groups without being distracted by smaller children. If you have a question about bringing a sibling, please contact one of us.
