  • Welcome from Mr. Conaway and the Sunnyvale Raider Pride Bands

It is such a joy to be teaching in Sunnyvale ISD.  I have taught for 22 years in the metro area and have enjoyed teaching kids in both middle school and high school settings.  My wife (Christie) and I live in historic downtown Forney, however our two sons, Grant and Preston are proud "Raiders" and attend 8th grade in Sunnyvale.  We are truly blessed to be in this area and look forward to teaching the joy of music to your child. Go Raider Bands!!

A big congratulations to our Sunnyvale High School Band Members on their recent auditions and placement in the DCI group "Genesis".  Logan Jacobs on Trumpet, Jacob Bradford on Baritone and Taylor Touma on Color Guard were recently selected for call backs to the Drum Corps International Genesis group, located in Austin Texas.  Genesis is part of an Open Class division of DCI and these groups are considered the professional level of marching band ensembles.  Genesis auditions took place on Dec. 18th-20th @ Bastrop High School with over 450 extremely talented students auditioning.  Both Jacob Bradford and Logan Jacobs have completed 2 rounds of auditions and are therefore placed, with Taylor Touma auditioning in April for final placement.  Way to go to these fine individuals and way to represent Sunnyvale Bands in their endeavors.

Congratulations to the SHS Raider Pride Marching Band as they continue a tradition of excellence at the 2016 Region 3 UIL Marching Contest.  The contest was held on Wednesday, Oct. 26th and the Raider Pride Marching Band performed wonderfully their competition show "Alice's Mad World", held at Mesquite Memorial Stadium in Mesquite Texas.  All three of the adjudicators gave the SRPMB First Division "Sweepstakes" ratings, and we are so proud of the kids great work for this marching season.
We want to again thank all of the fantastic support from friends, family and of course our great band boosters for being out with us for not only this event, but also all of the various Friday night games and Saturday marching contest.
Thanks again Raiders and we look forward to another year of great success with our Sunnyvale Raider Pride Marching Band.
    GO RAIDER BANDS!!

What a great and tremendous job this weekend at both the 2016 Wylie Marching Invitational and the 2016 Sounds of Fall Marching Festival.  SRPMB represented well and we want to say thanks to all of the Band Boosters for helping on such a long day.  Also, big thanks to the Fonseca Family for providing lunch for our marching band.  We had a blast at Cici's McKinney!!
    Here are some great highlights.
2016 WMI..SRPMB took best in Class 3A.  Yes, we were the only ones..but we were there with the big dogs!!  Some great comments from all judges in our pursuit to a great UIL performance on Wednesday the 26th @ Mesquite Memorial Stadium.
2016 SOF...SRPMB again did a great job in representing Class 3A.  This was out first time at bat at this competition and there is a reason why they call this "Pre-Area", as many of the groups are perpetual Area B Finalist and State Finalist from North Texas.  Treat this as a precursor to State Finals, as these champion groups have a steadfast history of greatness!!
SRPMB placed among 13 other 3A groups.
Class 3A Music, 8th place (not bad, however, we need to work balance and phrasing)
Class 3A Marching, 3rd place...just behind two UIL state champion bands.
Class 3A Percussion, 3rd place...again, just behind 2 state champion bands.
Class 3A Guard, 5th place...great job Sunny Guard!!
Overall, in 3A we ranked 4th place in and 13th among 32 groups of all classifications..up to 6A.
    GO RAIDER BANDS!!

A huge congrats to the Raider Pride Marching Band on their very successful weekend at the 2016 Cedar Creek Marching Festival in Mabank TX.  The kids performed beautifully for both prelims and finals and the judges has some great comments for the band.
Here are some highlights from the 2016 CCMF.
RPMB scored 2nd place in Prelims, highest among 3A's and advanced to finals.

On Saturday, September 17th, the Sunnyvale High School Jazz Band students competed at the ATSSB Region 3 HS Jazz Band Auditions @ Crandall HS.  The competition was tougher that ever this year, with many sections doubling their number of students auditioning.  The SHS Jazz students did a wonderful job representing Sunnyvale ISD, and the following students made the group.

Kelsey Pormasdoro, Alto Saxophone, 1st Alternate Region Jazz
Jacob Bradford, Trombone, 2nd Chair Region Jazz and Area Jazz Qualifier

Congrats go our to our High School Raider Pride Drumline and Front Ensemble for their spectacular work at the 2015 Lone Star Classic on Saturday, Nov 7th @ Marcus HS.  The drumline competed in Red Stand Still II Division, and did quite well, placing 5th overall and top of their classification.  Impressive enough was that RPDL went up against many other larger and more experienced 4A, 5A and 6A programs.  Check out the pics and site link below.  Way to go RPDL!!

Congratulations to our Sunnyvale Raider Pride Marching Band as they competed on Tuesday, Oct. 27th at the 2015 Area B Marching Championships @ Collins Stadium in Denton TX.  The band qualified for area marching, which comprises 40+ other qualifying 3A bands from Regions 2, 3, 21 and 25.  The Raider Pride Band made finals with a solid 9th place showing from the pre-liminary round.  After some tweaking of sounds and marching, the group was able to move up in their second performance another 3 spots to 6th place in Finals, ahead of many of the larger and more experienced groups.   UIL takes only the top four spots from area to state championships, and regrettably the band barely missed by just a few judging scored points.  Again, a big thanks to all of SISD staff, parents and fans who came out with us and helped with equipment and meals.

The Raider Marching Band has now advanced to the Area Round of competition on Saturday, Oct. 24th amongst 4 other regions and around 25 bands of our area.  The North Texas Area B is one of the strongest Area's in the state of Texas, and we know the SHS Band has good potential of an awesome showing.  Wish us luck as we show off Raider Pride on Saturday, Oct. 24th @ Collings Stadium, Denton TX.

You are also invited to a special performance of the Raider Pride Band this Saturday, Oct. 17th @ 10:45am in the SISD Stadium.  We are doing this to keep us fresh and ready for the next weekend's area contest.  The band will be in relaxed attire and will run our show for the community with a small social afterward.

Congratulations to the Sunnyvale High School Marching Band at the Area B Marching Contest held on Saturday, October 26th @ Collins Stadium in Denton.  The band achieved one of our biggest goals, and made it to the final round of competition.  Unfortunately, due to the severe weather with rain and lightning, the finals were cancelled and the preliminary order was chosen as the final placement for sending bands on the the state finals.  Sunnyvale had a great showing (current 8th) place out of 20 groups and we knew that if we had another good go at the second round, we easily could have moved up.  Again, not bad at all Sunnyvale in our very first time at area competition.  Congrats on a great job and thanks to the many parents that helped us through all of this wonderful journey.  Let's keep building on this great tradition of excellence.
    GO RAIDER BANDS!!

On June 16th through June 20th, three of our band leadership students took part in a wonderful summer leadership course at Texas A&M Commerce Summer Music Camps.  Lauren Hendricks, Dominique Roquemore, and Ruby Cherian learned a great deal about how to encourage and work with peers as part of this experience. This hands on course is always a great way to show student leaders how they can be effective once their role of leadership starts for the school year.  Pictured are the girls at the camp banquet, one of the fun activities with the camp.  Way to show off Sunnyvale!!
