Welcome to Sunnyvale ISD Child Nutrition Dept. web page!
It is the number one priority of the Sunnyvale Child Nutrition Department to ensure that all the students who patronize our cafeterias are met with positive, friendly and caring servers who offer nutritious, appetizing meals. It is also our goal to help the children of Sunnyvale ISD learn to make healthy food choices and better understand the concept of portion control through nutrition education.
The Sunnyvale ISD CN Dept. is operated under an agreement with the United States Department of Agriculture as over seen by the Texas Department of Agriculture to provide wholesome, nutritious meals to our students under the regulations of the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program. It is the responsibility of the Sunnyvale ISD CN Department to comply with all United States Department of Agriculture rules and regulations in regard to these programs.
New Cafeteria Partnership Means New Options for Raider Lunches
SISD is excited to announce its partnership with Chartwell’s Food Management Company for its cafeteria services beginning this fall.
“Working with with Chartwell’s' Dieticians and Chefs will allow us to introduce new and exciting recipes, unique menu items, taste testing and promotions and professional chef demonstrations,” Child Nutrition Director Rhonda (Monahan) Martin said. “Working with Chartwell’s allows us this flexibility while still keeping in compliance with government guidelines.”
According to Martin, students, faculty and visitors can expect more of a “café atmosphere” during their lunch periods.
“We will offer a variety of entree choices from our themed stations,” Martin said. “The SHS campus will have a new ‘On-the Go’ station located outside the dining room, Fresh Fruit Slushies will be introduce at both SMS and SHS, and coming soon will be a Fresh Garden Bar at SES.”
Also coming soon is NutriSlice, an app complete with menus, menu item nutrition facts, and allergen/dietary alerts.
Martin stresses important information – about her very popular staff.
“Not to worry! Students and faculty will still be able to interact with their favorite “lunch ladies, along with a few new faces,” she said. “We are all very excited to and strongly encourage feedback from the students, faculty and community while transitioning to this new service.”
