My name is Kristi McDermett, This is my first year on the Third grade team. I previously taught Self Contained, Resource, Content Mastery, First grade and Second grade here at Sunnyvale Elementary School. I am also the Cheerleader Coordinator for Sunnyvale ISD and the Varsity Cheerleader Coach. This is going to be a fun and exciting year.
I am happily married and the mother of four incredible daughters; ages 20, 19, and the twins are 18. They all graduated from Sunnyvale High School! My oldest daughter, Kali, is a Junior at Abilene Christian University where she is studying Family and Consumer Sciences. Lori, my middle child is a Sophomore at Dallas Baptist University where she is studying Communications. The twins are heading in different directions this fall. Ashley, will be attending Texas Christian Univeristy as an athletic trainer. She will be studying Biology and Chemistry as a pre-med major. Haley will be a Cheerleader at Hardin Simons University studying non-profit business management.
I began my career in Special Education about 23 years ago. My first position was as a self-contained teacher for emotionally disturbed students, kindergarten through 12th grade, in a small school district. This is my thirteenth year to teach in Sunnyvale and I absolutely love it, I cannot imagine being anywhere but here. I am certified in Special Education to teach PK-12, Elementary Education to teach EC-4, certified in English as a Second Language Grades EC-12 and hold a Gifted and Talented certificate.
I am hopeful that together, as parent and teacher, we can work to provide an academically stimulating, safe, nurturing and challenging environment for your child. My promise to you is that I will consistently put the best interest of your child first and keep you informed of your child’s growth and academic developments. I am very excited and am looking forward to a wonderful year with your child.
