    NJHS Guidelines

    (Effective August 2019)

     

    There are yearly membership requirements in order to maintain membership with the Sunnyvale Middle School NJHS. If a student fails to complete the yearly membership requirements, he/she will be placed on probation and could be dismissed from the organization. Yearly membership requirements include:


    • Maintaining 85 or above in all classes on schedule each 9-week period (quarter).

    • Maintain a high level character. Teachers will be asked quarterly to review and report on student behavior and character in the classroom. Unfavorable reports of students may result in probation for one quarter. If a favorable report is submitted by the member's teachers for the next quarter, then the student will be removed from probation.

    • Minimum of 30 hours of community service throughout the school year. 30 hours of community service must be accumulated in the following manner: 5 hours each quarter and 10 hours during the summer. Failure to accumulate the minimum number of community hours for a quarter or during the summer will result in membership probation. Two consecutive failures to obtain community service hours will result in dismissal from the organization.

    • Office referrals are not acceptable. One office referral during the school year will result in membership probation. More than one office referral within a school year will result in dismissal from the organization. Assignment of ISS or DAEP will result in dismissal from the organization.
