My name is Kristi McDermett, I am a Special Education teacher for 3rd - 5th grade students at Sunnyvale Intermediate School. I have previously taught Resource, Content Mastery, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade here at SISD. I have taught at the Elementary, Intermediate and Middle School. I am also a JV Cheerleader Coach for Sunnyvale High School. This is going to be a year unlike any other and I am looking forward to working with my students and their families as we walk this new journey together.
I am happily married and the mother of four incredible daughters; ages 22, 21, and the twins are 20. They all graduated from Sunnyvale High School! My oldest daughter, Kali, is attending the Ft. Worth Culinary Institute. Lori, my middle child graduated from Dallas Baptist University in May and married the best son in law I could ask for in June. The twins are both attending Dallas Baptist University. Ashley is studying Biology and Chemistry as a pre-med major. Haley is working on her degree in Business Managment.
I began my career in Special Education about 25 years ago as a self-contained teacher for emotionally disturbed students, kindergarten through 12th grade, in a small school district. This is my sixteenth year to teach in Sunnyvale and I absolutely love it, I cannot imagine being anywhere but here. I am certified in Special Education to teach PK-12, Elementary Education to teach EC-6, certified in English as a Second Language Grades EC-12 and hold a Gifted and Talented certificate.
I am hopeful that together, as parent and teacher, we can work to provide an academically stimulating, safe, nurturing and challenging environment for your child. My promise to you is that I will consistently put the best interest of your child first and keep you informed of your child’s growth and academic developments. I am very excited and am look forward to a wonderful year with your child.
