Mrs. Kelly Gunn Buck

Hello! My name is Kelly Gunn Buck and I teach junior/senior English to 11th and 12th graders at Sunnyvale High School. In addition to English, I will also be taking over the Reading class this year as well as one section of the STAAR prep. I am excited to say that this will be my third year at Sunnvale and I am proud to be a Raider! I hope to see many years with the district because this is truly a great place to be.

My passion for writing and exploring new stories and worlds through reading is what led me down the path to teaching English. It is my belief that everyone can find their personal interests and passions through reading and discovering. I am very excited about teaching World Cultures Literature this year for the English 3 and English 4 credits. I truly find joy in constantly learning new things, and I am able to learn more with each year that passes. I am excited about helping my students find a passion for learning new things as well.

I am happily married to my best friend, Justin, who teaches Spanish at North Forney High School and is the head boys soccer coach. We have three fun and energetic boys that keep us on our toes. Michael is 11 and is starting Sunnyvale Middle School this year. Sullivan is 4 and will be attending his second year of PreK at Sunnyvale Elementary, and my baby, Landon, just turned 2 this summer. We stay busy and share a love for soccer. In my spare time, I like to watch Premier League with my husband, rooting for Manchester City, or watching our kids duke it out on the soccer field in their rec leagues! I am optimistically hoping to win in our soccer fantasy league this year! We also enjoy family fun days at the arcade or bowling with our kids, and playing lots of card games.

I recently finished my master's degree in special education and became certified as well. I chose to focus on special education and inclusion because I wanted to make sure that I was as knowledgeable as possible to be able to help my students in the best way that I can. I was able to learn new strategies, terms, laws, and approaches to teaching every level of student I might have, including GT kiddos. What I wanted most was to be able to be an advocate for students and families as they try to navigate this new world of education and the ever changing culture around us. I aim to create a comfortable and constant relationship with the families of my students every year. Another one of my favorite things is organization. You can find me color coding just about everything in my life. I am excited about entering a new school year with just a little bit more knowledge than the last. I hope to share my love for the classroom and students as well as my passion for organization with my colleagues and students this year! Cheers to another wonderful year, Raiders!
