Mrs. Shelby Webster-Payne
Hi! My name is Shelby Webster-Payne and I began my teaching career back in 2008. I have primarily taught U.S. History (which I find extremely interesting), but my passion has always been learning about and following government-related events and politics. My goals with my Dual Credit Government sections are to facilitate students' analysis and understanding of governmental institutions, political behavior, civic engagement, their political and philosophical foundations, and to help students make connections and find relevancy between what we cover in the textbook to what is happening in the world around them and to their lives today.
In addition to teaching Dual Credit Government, I also teach AP Microeconomics and on-level Economics. My goals for my Economics sections are for students to not only understand our country's economic system of free enterprise, but to also become self-supporting adults who can make informed decisions relating to personal financial matters, and evaluate how the actions of U.S. citizens and the local, state, and federal governments have either met or failed to meet the economic needs and wants of the American people.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, playing tennis, and spending time with my family. My husband is also a high school teacher in a neighboring district. We have two kids; a nineteen-year-old son who is attending a local college and an eleven-year-old daughter who is a rising 6th grader. I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of Sunnyvale ISD and I am looking forward to having a wonderful year!
