    Bond Information Session, October 6

SISD will host a Bond Information Session on October 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Gwinn Blankenship Board Room at the Sunnyvale School Building and Administrative Offices at 417 E. Tripp Road. The meeting is open to the public.

Citizens residing in Sunnyvale ISD will have an opportunity to vote in November on a $5.6 million bond that will fund an expansion to Sunnyvale Middle School. The school, which began housing Sunnyvale middle school students in 2006, was originally designed for 450 students, with planned expansion areas for up to 700 students. On September 3, 2014, attendance at SMS reached 461 students.

The timing of the election is intended to benefit tax payers, because government-issued bonds can be used, but they must be issued before prior to May 2015.

"Our Facilities Committee researched various options, including a fourth campus," Superintendent Doug Williams said. "At this time, however, the most appropriate way to balance our needs with the needs of Sunnyvale's tax payers is to do a simple middle school expansion."

At the information session, Mr. Williams will answer questions and discuss items related to the bond election, including other capital projects included in the bond package – a retrofit and update to the former elementary gym, and sun screens for the current elementary school playgrounds.
