K-2 RTI Reading & Math
Sunnyvale Elementary School
Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year
My name is Kristen Nester. I teach RTI Reading and Math. It is such an honor to be entrusted with your children. Thank you for sharing them with me!
I began “teaching” at the age of four. My little sister and all of my stuffed animals were great students! I received my formal training at East Texas State University. I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in 1990. My degree is in Elementary Education with a Reading Specialization and a Kindergarten Endorsement. I graduated with a Master's Degree from Amberton University in 2000. I am ESL certified. I am also certified to teach MTA. I completed the Reading Scholar Program at SMU in May 2018. My teaching experience includes four years of Kindergarten, thirteen years of First Grade, and four years of Dyslexia MTA teaching. This will be my eighth year to teach RTI students. I will teach Kindergarten and First Grade Reading and Math Intervention groups.
This will be my thirteenth year to teach at Sunnyvale Elementary and my thirteenth year to be a Raider parent. I have been married to my husband Mark for twenty-nine years, and we have two wonderful sons; Sam (Sophomore at Eastfield College) & Jake (High School Senior). We are all looking forward to another great school year.
I have a passion for teaching, and I hope to help your children develop a passion for learning. It is my goal to help our students become life long learners and readers.
Please contact me through email if you want to share a resource you find interesting or share any “A-ha!” moments your child has. Also, contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. Collaboration and communication between teachers and parents will ensure that our students grow as learners.
