SISD Board of Trustees Names Superintendent Lone Finalist
The Sunnyvale ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name Matt Kimball the Lone Finalist for the position of Superintendent at their regularly scheduled meeting on April 24.
“We are very excited about the naming of Mr. Matt Kimball as the lone finalist for the position of Superintendent at Sunnyvale ISD,” Board President Brad Cravens said. “We were fortunate to have an exceptional pool of highly-qualified superintendent candidates from which to choose. Mr. Kimball emerged as our leader because he is an experienced, dedicated educational leader with a strong track record of working collaboratively with school staff to improve outcomes for students. Our Board of Trustees feel he has the vision, skills and experience to maintain the Sunnyvale culture but to also move the district forward to the next level as indicated in our Raiders Rise Vision.”
Mr. Kimball comes to the Raider Nation from Blue Ridge ISD, where he has served the district since 2019. He began his career in Coppell ISD as a teacher and Assistant Principal. He was a principal in the Frisco Independent School District from 2002 to 2014 and then became Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources with the San Angelo Independent School District. His 30-year educational career is highlighted by one of his campuses being selected as a National Blue Ribbon School in 2006.
“My wife and I are excited to join Sunnyvale ISD and the Sunnyvale community,” Mr. Kimball said. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for Doug Williams and his team. Sunnyvale’s excellent schools are a testimony to their work and leadership. While I look forward to learning and leading beside the best, I am most excited to meet the amazing students and staff that make up Raider Nation! #RaidersRise!”
During his time at BRISD, passed a $25 million bond, built a new elementary school and remodeled the other campuses. The district also built two new agricultural education barns and a new athletics field house. The district has expanded Career and Technical Education opportunities for students and improved SAT participation and scores under Mr. Kimball’s leadership.
In December of 2022, the district experienced a tornado that caused an estimated $12 million dollars of damage. Mr. Kimball led the district in the repair of those damages. He also helped BRISD establish an Education Foundation, which supports students and teachers with innovative grants and scholarships.
Texas state law requires the superintendent candidate be named as the lone finalist for 21 days. After that time, SISD’s Board of Trustees will take action to finalize the Superintendent’s contract at a meeting. Upon final board action, Mr. Kimball is expected to assume the Sunnyvale superintendent position in early summer, succeeding long-time Superintendent Doug Williams who has announced his retirement.
Mr. Kimball has been married to his wife, Jennifer for 32 years. They have two children, Grant and Sheridan. Grant, a graduate of Texas A&M University, is married to Laura. The couple has a one-year-old son named James (the Kimball’s first grandchild). Sheridan is a junior at Texas A&M University. The Kimballs attend Prestoncrest Church of Christ.
The Kimballs will reside in Sunnyvale
