Sunnyvale High School’s National Honor Society, staff and students paid tribute to local heroes with a Veterans Day celebration on Monday, Nov. 10. Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/ND25QdD651o

The morning began with a breakfast in the library for area veterans, followed by a recognition ceremony in the gym.

The Raider Band opened the program with theme songs for each branch of the military, and the SHS choir performed the "Star-Spangled Banner." Elementary students entertained guests with three patriotic songs. Additionally, the poem "I Am a Veteran" by Andrea C. Brett was shared.

Rows of white chairs adorned with single white roses, the Nick Sloan Memorial Row, were arranged as a solemn tribute to deceased veterans. An Honor Roll for Sunnyvale area veterans was also called.

The ceremony concluded with the choir performing a version of "Taps" and the band closing with Sousa’s spirited "Three Cheers for the Red, White, and Blue."

Transportation Update Nov. 4 - https://secure.smore.com/n/tsm1kg
On Tuesday, Nov. 4, third graders at SIS participated in Thirdville, a special tradition where students learn about voting by holding their own mock election. Some students participated as mayoral candidates, while others embraced their roles as citizens. After placing their votes, they proudly wore their "I Voted" stickers. Thirdville gives our students a chance to experience the democratic process firsthand and see why every vote counts. Way to go, future voters!

November is Native American Heritage Month, a tradition that began with various states honoring Native peoples in the early 1900s and became a month-long national observance in 1990. It’s a time to learn about, honor, and celebrate the stories, cultures, and contributions of the first Americans.

November 3 is Father of Texas Day! On this date, we celebrate Stephen F. Austin, whose vision and leadership brought the first American settlers to Texas, earning him the lasting title “Father of Texas.” Across our state, his legacy lives on in names of parks, colleges and universities, our capital city, and so much more.
