JET Grant

The CTE department of Sunnyvale ISD has been awarded a $331,066 Jobs and Education for Texas (JET) grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), allowing for further  innovation and learning in the Sunnyvale High School health science classrooms. Specifically, this fund will help expand the Patient Care Tech Pathway in an effort to address the growing need for nurses in the area.

The JET program, administered by TWC and in partnership with Governor Greg Abbott, helps Texas educational institutions enhance career and tech education (CTE) programs. The grants provided funding for schools to buy and install equipment that helps students experience the latest innovations in various career and technical fields. In order to be eligible, career and technical education courses must lead to a license or certificate in eligible, high-demand career pathways.

This is the first time SISD has been awarded a JET grant.

This grant will be used in conjunction with the new bond project that includes renovation and expansion of the health science classrooms at Sunnyvale High School. The additional funding will allow the district to equip the new spaces with innovative tools to further provide hands-on learning experiences to prepare them for jobs in the ever-evolving health industry.

Purchases will include exciting equipment such as lifelike simulated manikins, crash carts, phlebotomy draw stations, and more.

JET funding for ISDs can range from $40,000 to $375,000. With this grant, SISD joins the growing number of Texas schools leveraging state grants to stay on the cutting edge and to equip students for strong futures.
